Alternatives to Somfy’s TaHoma for Smart Homes

Alternatives to Somfy’s TaHoma for Smart Homes

Somfy’s TaHoma Switch is an easy-to-install home automation system that makes controlling your home simple.

TaHoma hubs only need an internet connection to operate, so there’s no need for additional wiring to be installed to get started. The Switch is also small and discreet, so it’s easy to hide or blend in with your existing tech.

This system is compatible with RTS and iO frequencies, so it’s easy to connect your existing Somfy products to the TaHoma hub.

We have a whole article on the feature and benefits of the TaHoma system, check it out here.

But what alternatives are there for when you don’t have RTS or iO motors? Is there an equivalent from another brand?

Yubii Smart Hub from Nice

The Yubii hub is a small device that only needs mains power and a WIFI connection to work, similar to the TaHoma. Yubii is the gateway for connecting Nice, FIBARO, Elero technologies and other Z-wave devices.

Fibaro smart home is a modular Z-wave system, which means new devices can be added at any time. Fibaro is also an open system which makes it compatible with devices from many different manufacturers, not just Fibaro’s own devices.

This means you can connect devices through the Fibaro system from all of these brands:

  • Phillips Hue
  • Samsung
  • Nice
  • Apple Homekit
  • Google Assistant
  • Amazon Alexa
  • Siri
  • Sonos
  • Yamaha

Like Somfy’s TaHoma, the Yubii hub also has a compatible app. The Yubii app is designed to show you what’s going on in your home at a glance.

In the app, you can create custom lighting scenes, open and close your blinds and curtains, adjust heating and air conditioning and check on your security devices all from your phone. Regardless of whether you are at home or remote, every device in your home can be controlled from the app.

Connecting blinds to Fibaro smart home is really simple thanks to the Roller Shutter 3 module

The Roller Shutter 3 device is a radio controller based on Z-Wave technology and is powered by mains power. This device provides precise positioning of blinds, so they can be set to the position you choose. By connecting your blind motor to the Roller Shutter 3, you can use them in scenes, open or close them using voice commands and operate them remotely.

Roller Shutter 3 can control any device that is powered by an AC motor, meaning most hardwired motors can be controlled by the Fibaro smart home system. Some examples of compatible motors are:

  • Somfy Sonesse WT

  • Vestamatic MM/ME

  • Nice Action

  • Elero Roltop

linkIT from Gaposa

linkIT from Gaposa allows you to integrate Gaposa radio motors with a Control4 smart home control solution. It also has a standalone app that can be used if you’re not connecting to a Control4 system.

This solution is a good option if you have an existing Control4 system and know that you want to use Gaposa radio motors. Gaposa’s radio motors are extremely quiet and can lift very large blinds so they’re a good choice for homes with very large windows in communal areas.

linkIT allows for group and individual motor control. Simply connect by using the approved connection cable to your controller and install the easy-to-use integration driver. Each linkIT can support up to 24 channels depending on model number.

Sonos & Lutron Connect from Lutron

The Lutron Connect platform integrates with Sonos® systems allowing the Lutron system to seamlessly blend light, shade, temperature, and audio control from any system keypad.

This system is compatible with both the Lutron RadioRA 2 and HomeWorks QS systems.

A typical connection within a home includes the Lutron Connect mobile app establishing a Wi-Fi® connection to the router and the Lutron processor, such as the Lutron Connect Bridge.

Lutron smart home systems are incredibly popular, so having a system that makes them compatible with your blinds is a real benefit.
