Overview
These blinds are part of the ‘Stellar Collection’ by Alison White Design, which was inspired by the idea of introducing light into a room but still using a blackout material. The design of this fabric is inspired by the stars in the galaxy, with the perforation of the fabric giving the illusion of a starry sky at night.
This fabric introduces minimal light into the living space which can offer a more natural way to fall asleep and wake up, akin to sleeping under real stars.
Design Challenge
This unique project was a collaboration between Blind Fashion, Alison White Design and Umbra Shading. KuroLok 100 RL zipped-edge technology blinds were the vehicle to success for this design, providing a platform to display the centre piece; the fabric. Alison White produced the perforated blackout fabric for these blinds which is the real star of the show, allowing small shafts of light to percolate through.
We used 24v 6Nm motors to drive these shades which offer extremely smooth and quiet operation. Control was done through a 0v dry-contact connection. We also supplied L-angle shelving profiles for these zipped blinds which conceal the side channels and tension cords for a neat and completely ‘wirefree’ finish.
