We at Umbra are big cheerleaders for specifying blinds early on in the design stage. Early specification can mitigate a wide range of installation issues and save you money from the offset.

But as most installers will testify, the reality is that blinds are often seen as an afterthought.

This certainly was the case at this stunning West London extension. The client had installed mechanical motorised roof windows with UV glazing reducing heat gain by a considerable amount.

However, it quickly became apparent that even with UV glazing, the heat gain effect of all that expansive roof glass called for an interior shading solution; one that would now have to be fitted retroactively without damaging the surroundings.

Umbra Select dealer Callum Ralph from Creative Curtains & Blinds took the challenge on, and after plenty of consulting back and forth with our technical team, the client was advised on a motorised solution that works with this specific design challenge.

The result is a testament to Umbra’s willingness to take on any shading challenge, applying pragmatism and quality to achieve the best result.
