Design Challenge
The primary challenge was providing various shading products across multiple rooms and window types.
Tall, narrow windows are partnered with show-stopping atrium glass in the main hall, with floor-to-ceiling patio glass in the kitchen and dining area.
The media room is a cosy, contemplative space with limited room available for an additional projector screen.
The top blind in the sitting area is a specialist ‘meet in the middle’ solution made by another company, thus our solution for the surrounding windows needed to harmonise aesthetically and operationally.
Low sun and intense glare are present at the rear of the property in the winter months, generating excessive heat and solar gain through the large glazed areas.
Solution
Flow motorised curtain tracks, Helios roller blinds and a special KuroLok zipped-edge blind/cinema screen are controlled with Nice Home Automation touch screen panel controls to create a harmonious automated shading system that’s as capable as it is user-friendly. All of the blinds (except one) are beautifully recessed with Blindspace profiles for a neat and functional finish with no mechanisms on show.

- The KuroLok projector screen is an innovative way of blacking out the room and deploying a projection surface in one singular action.
- Helios roller blinds in the kitchen were equipped with screen fabric, allowing for stunning views outwards whilst offering optimal shading performance.
- The blinds were motorised with a mixture of Nice & Somfy motors, all feeding into a Nice Home Automation system with touch panels in each room. Ensuring all the blinds’ motors could communicate together was a big part of this job.
- The roller blind for the lower window in the main sitting area couldn’t be recessed in Blindspace due to a structural steel beam sitting above it. The blind cassette was powder-coated in-house to match the surrounding hardware. The result is a natural-looking solution that doesn’t look like a compromise.
