Design Challenge
This project required a shading system that would block the glare but not the light, would be discreet in the window and could be controlled by their building management system where necessary.
The other aspect that has to be considered was the impact the blinds would have on the overall energy performance of the building. It was important to prevent the blinds from being down unnecessarily so that the cooling and lighting weren’t consuming energy when natural daylight and ventilation could be used.
Solution
The solution was our Helios system with sleek square cassettes that were powder coated to RAL 7022 to blend in with the window mullions for a discreet finish. We used Spectrum 2050 dim-out fabric which would provide privacy and glare control but still allow some light through for a comfortable environment inside.
Many of the blinds were driven by Vestamatic SMI motors that were connected to a central control system that automated many different aspects of the building including the blinds. Local override switches were fitted to give user-level control of their workspace.
By connecting the blinds to the building management system we enabled the lighting, heating and cooling to work hand in hand with the shades to improve the energy efficiency of each space within the building.
